Here's an easy recipe for making pop.

You will need:

8oz glass of water, 1 package of Kool-AidŽ mix with citric acid, 1/2 teaspoons baking soda, 3 teaspoon sugar

Now try this:

  1. Mix sugar and Kool-AidŽ mix.

  2. Mix in the baking soda.  Observe what happens.

  3. Taste the product.  Add more sugar if needed.

What is happening?

There is a chemical reaction between the citric acid in the Kool-AidŽ and the baking soda, producing carbon dioxide (the gas that is in pop).  Pop is a carbonated drink containing carbon dioxide dissolved in water.  A quick test is to add salt and the solution should show a release of the carbon dioxide gas.
